About Autism Science Foundation Canada:

Breaking Boundaries. Building Connections.

Autism Science Foundation Canada (ASFC) is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to advancing innovative research on autism in Canada, providing information about autism to the general public, and increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders.

Meeting a Complex Challenge

  • 1 in 50 children in Canada is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a similar rate to what is seen in the United States. Individuals with ASD can range from having cognitive impairments to having typical or above average IQs. They can face unique difficulties with social situations, life changes, and managing behavior.

  • Scientists agree that the earlier a child receives early intervention services the better the child’s prognosis. There is no cure for autism, and most individuals with ASD will need support and services throughout their lifetime.

Local Research With A Global Impact

To address this challenge, the Autism Science Foundation funds research projects across Canada on genetics, neurobiology, behavioral intervention, and social sciences in order to improve our understanding and treatment of autism. We work with almost a dozen different autism researchers in Canada at the University of Alberta, Holland Bloorview Hospital, and the University of Toronto.
